As opposed to my last visit, Duchess was very calm and complacent on this trip. Kind of like she was trying to make up for being so cranky during the last visit. I've never seen her just lay inside her house like this. Though, I don't blame her, it was really hot out.

the scab on the top of her ear, is it just from rough play? it looks a bit like mange

No it is certainly not mange. It's from fighting and horse flies chewing on her ears. The Sanctuary puts stuff on their ears to keep the flies off but Duchess doesn't really like it.

Her eyes are showing a sad manner. It's a great pic, don't get me wrong, but I don't like seeing wolves so sad. When Ladyhawke (another wolf I know) lost Shone(her mate) she cried for weeks. When I saw her mourning, I just about cried with her.

Yeah...it's just the way I am around wolves. I can feel what they are feeling, but I can't really tell when it comes to photos unless it REALLY shows on their faces. But you're right.
